No prior experience in umpiring, playing, or coaching baseball is required or necessary.

Requirements for graduation

Students will be provided regular verbal progress reports regarding their strengths and deficiencies throughout the course. Additionally, students will receive one-on-one video reviews of their cage (plate) work. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a face-to-face final evaluation of their work, as well as a report card identifying their grades in each of the grade criterion.

A diploma will be provided to every student that completes the course in Good Standing. In order to remain in “Good Standing” with the program, students must continue to show satisfactory progress in the judgment of the Wendelstedt staff, regardless of their status throughout the course. This policy is put in place with the understanding that umpire school students progress at different rates based on previous experience, physical abilities, and training methods. A student's enrollment can be terminated at the discretion of the institution for insufficient academic progress, non-payment of academic costs, or failure to comply with rules and policies established by the institution as outlined in the catalog and this agreement.

Successfully completing the Professional Umpire Course is a core requirement for those students seeking placement in professional baseball.

Course transferability

The transferability of credit is at the discretion of the accepting institution, and it is the student's responsibility to confirm whether or not credits will be accepted by another institution of the student's choice. The Wendelstedt Umpire School will not accept or transfer any previous credit from any other institution, except where outlined by addendum to this catalog and agreement.

*Applicants with physical disabilities that might prevent them from carrying out normal physical tasks required by the course should contact the umpire school to see if accommodations can be provided.
