NO, we assume you have no previous umpiring knowledge or experience. On the first day we start from the basics and most of the time it is better not to have any previous knowledge. Previous knowledge or experience usually leads to bad habits which must be corrected. If you have no previous experience you will have no bad habits to overcome.

There is no concrete number for our class size. In the last five years we have had as many students as 190 and as few as 127. We never know our class size until January 2nd because many enrolled students do not report for various reasons.

We find out each year on February 1st the number of students who will go to the placement camp. Each year this number varies based on expansion, retirements and releases in professional baseball. This year we sent 25 students to the placement camp. In addition, 10 were sent on a reserve list to PBUC and will be called as needed when openings occur.

You must be at least 18 years old to attend Umpire School. Our job at Umpire School is to provide PBUC our best trained umpiring candidates regardless of age, gender, race or any other factors. If you are one of our best candidates you will be sent to the placement camp.
