Al Somers
1905-1997

Al Somers was known as the finest umpire instructor of his time. Called with affection "The Whip," he commanded on the field and in teaching his craft with a firm dedication. He helped thousands into umpiring careers. Seventy former students reached the majors.
Most of all, Al was a man with a big heart. He cared about people, and he helped so many. His devotion to the Catholic Church was the center of his being. Al will be greatly missed.
He made an enormous difference in the world.
